Skyworth Chairman and President Wang Zhiguo says his company plans to invest 1.5 billion yuan to develop ecosystem.

Skyworth will invest 1.5 billion yuan (US$214.3 million) to upgrade its smart home-services ecosystem, the home appliance and consumer technology giant said on Tuesday.

The new era of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) brings challenges and opportunities for the home appliance industry, especially during the coronavirus outbreak, Wang Zhiguo, Skyworth’s chairman and president, said in an online conference.

The company has developed a new ecosystem brand known as Swaiot, referring to its Skyworth AI and IoT systems. With its investment, it plans to develop the ecosystem and support service and manufacturing partners.

Currently, Skyworth has more than 50 million TV users. Its system is connected to 20 million devices in over 60 categories, with brands like Huawei, Vivo, Midea and JD.com all supporting the system.

Skyworth also released new products during the conference.

The new Skyworth smart TV G71 features AI functions and a pop-up camera specially designed for video conferences, which is useful for remote work and online education during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Other new products include a tablet computer supporting Swaiot which can control and interact with other devices and a video recorder supporting 8k definition.
