The “My Art Project” has been kicked off at Life Hub@Upbund in Hongkou District. During the monthlong event, visitors are invited to take part in artistic workshops, photography classes and other interactive activities.

The event aims at promoting an artistic life among residents in the neighboring area of the mall and encourage amateur art creation. The organizers hope the mall becomes more than a shopping center for visitors, but a communication and self-improvement center for everyone living nearby.

The artistic workshops include T-shirt designing, wallet making, rice dumpling making and a handcraft product exhibition. Independent drama society La Strada will put on stage performances and invite visitors to join them in some improvisational acting.

“Drama hides everywhere in daily life. Instead of going to theaters, we want visitors to join us and participate in the creation of a tailored and private work for themselves,” Shi Yuting, a La Strada actor, told Shanghai Daily. “My Art Project and its phenomenon suits our purpose well.”

Comedy talk shows, musical concerts and clown performances will be staged on weekends. The event will last till June 27.
