Former deputy director of Songjiang stands trial

Chen Xiaofeng, former deputy director of Songjiang District, stood trial at Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court on Tuesday on charges of taking bribes and misfeasance.

According to the No. 1 Branch of the Shanghai People's Procuratorate, Chen allegedly took bribes up to 7.51 million yuan (US$1.07 million) while acting as the Party secretary of the Zhongshan Subdistrict Office in Songjiang.

The procuratorate also said that from 2010 to 2011, Chen took advantage of his positions in the subdistrict to seek profits for others on gaining the right to use state-owned land, causing loss of public property worth 18.8 million yuan.

Chen made a confession in court and said he would accept penalties and obligations to be decided.
