About 400 courses taught in English have been developed by local universities since a campaign was launched in 2013 to attract more international students to Shanghai and improve the quality of education.

According to the Shanghai Education Commission, universities have submitted plans for a total of 404 courses and 394 have been developed and approved as demonstration courses, covering 60 majors. More than 400 teachers have also been trained to teach in English. These now benefit more than 60,000 international students studying at 34 local universities every year.

The commission said it will continue supporting and encouraging local universities to develop more qualified English-taught courses as the city is dedicated to developing world-class universities and disciplines.
