Shanghai University and New York University Shanghai have provisionally prolonged the winter vacation by a week following the coronavirus outbreak.

Shanghai University was scheduled to start the new semester on February 10 but will postpone by at least a week.

NYU Shanghai will also defer the launch of new semester from February 3 to February 10, but its academic buildings and residence halls will reopen as planned on January 31. To ensure that the spring semester finishes on time, there will be no spring break in March.

The announcements were made after the Ministry of Education on Thursday called for adjustments to teaching arrangements if necessary.

Donghua University, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Theater Academy, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts have all  postponed their admission tests.

Other universities have also taken actions including banning outsiders from entering campuses and suspending group activities.
