Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng yesterday had a meeting with the United States Ambassador to China Terry Edward Branstad and his delegation.

Gong introduced Shanghai’s efforts on the coronavirus epidemic prevention and social and economic development. He said that Shanghai is the bridge for economic and trade ties between China and the US.

The city will deepen the opening-up and reform initiative and further improve the business environment, Gong said as he welcomed US enterprises to participate in the upcoming third China International Import Expo.

Branstad expressed his gratitude for the supply of epidemic prevention and control materials from China.

Shanghai has achieved long-term development in recent years, he said, hoping to deepen cooperation and exchanges with the city to jointly deal with the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. He wished a great success of the third CIIE.

Sean Stein, the US consul general in Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
