In September, Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) will welcome its first batch of local and international students.

UAE has been long encouraging the cultivation of future talent through knowledge and science. MBZUAI will set up master of science and PhD programs in core AI areas such as machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing.

To compete with top AI programs around the world, especially those from North America, China and the UK, all students enrolled will be provided with full scholarships, salary, medical insurance and accommodation.

The UAE has been putting great emphasis on education as one of the nation’s key strategies, and well-known international educational programs include cooperation with NYU Abu Dhabi and BFSU Zayed Center for Arabic Language and Islamic Studies.

The UAE has become a trailblazer in the development of AI in the Middle East. After the establishment of the MBZUAI, it will actively provide practical solutions for AI with state-of-the-art technologies and ideas in the world.

UAE will also reach further cooperation in future with China, who is the global leader in the AI realm.

Experts predict that by 2030, the contribution of AI to the global economy will rise to 14 percent, about US$15.7 trillion.

Notably, Chinese have taken up the majority of the founders of the MBZUAI board of trustees, including Yao Qizhi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University, and Min Wanli, former chief scientist in machine intelligence at Alibaba Cloud.

His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE's minister of state, was appointed as the chairman of board of trustees.
