The 3rd Shanghai Citizen’s Sports Meet will be launched in May.

The 3rd Shanghai Citizen’s Sports Meet will kick off in May, with various sports competition and activities running through the rest of the year, the Shanghai Sports Bureau announced on Wednesday.

Held every four years, the sports meet aims at popularizing sports and a healthy lifestyle among residents. All activities are divided into three categories of “competitive sport,” “brand sport,” and “exhibition and service.”

In “competitive sport,” basketball, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo and go leagues will be organized, along with nearly 70 single-item competitions. “Brand sport” will include the Shanghai Student’s Sports Meet and Magic 3 Youth Basketball League. Sports knowledge lectures, skill training, exhibitions and shows will be featured in “exhibition and service.”

This year’s meet will continue to make use of market resources for organizing events. Companies and social associations are encouraged to submit tenders to become organizers of various competitions.

The sports bureau is also inviting residents to design a mascot for the 3rd Shanghai Citizen’s Sports Meet under the theme of “Healthy Shanghai, sports for everyone.” Those interested can send their works to shiminsports@126.com before February. The winner will be get 20,000 yuan (US$2,881) in prize money.
