3 killed, 2 injured in car accident in Changjiang Tunnel

THREE were killed and two injured in a single car accident in the Changjiang Tunnel in Shanghai on Monday afternoon, police said.

The accident took place at about 2pm as the car was running in the direction from Chongming Island to Pudong.

Police said firefighters were engaged to pull the injured out of the car. Three were pronounced dead in the hospital.

The accident caused congestions for some time as two lanes were shut down for rescue and clearing of the scene, but traffic order was gradually restored after 4pm.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
