Luxembourg Consulate working with Shanghai police over 'road-rage' video

THE Luxembourg Consulate General in Shanghai said in a statement yesterday that it was cooperating with Shanghai authorities in investigating an incident in which a consular attache was filmed quarreling on the road.

The video shot in the wee hours of April 7 showed two vehicles, one of them bearing a license plate of a foreign consulate, on a narrow road. The two parties quarreled over which side should yield first. A Chinese woman from the diplomatic vehicle was filmed repeatedly shouting and abusing the other driver.

The video was uploaded on Weibo by a person who was identified as a wedding photographer Deng Xiaotang.

It has received over 50,000 comments and was forwarded nearly 40,000 times.

The Luxembourg Consulate General in Shanghai said it regretted that the video hurt the feelings of Chinese netizens. It said it was investigating to find out the whole truth about what happened that night, and was working with the Shanghai Police and other relevant authorities.
