AMERICAN filmmaker Bill Condon is in Shanghai, promoting his latest offering “Beauty and the Beast,” a live-action romantic musical based on the 1991 classic Disney fairy tale.

The film’s cast, including Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans and Josh Gad, also flew in to promote the film and attend the China premiere at Shanghai Disney Resort.

The film will be released on March 17 in both China and North America simultaneously, both in IMAX 3D and 3D formats.

The film is a love story between a young woman and a monstrous-looking prince.

Condon, famous for his “Dreamgirls,” said the two characters fall in love quickly in the original 1991 animated film, but the new live-action film concentrates more on the individual character and the real connection of the two people.

British actress Emma Watson, on her first visit to China and known for her portrayal of Hermione in the Harry Potter film series, said that she couldn’t believe the size and scale of the castle in the Shanghai Disney Resort.

British actor Dan Stevens, who has a large fan base in China because of the TV series “Downton Abbey,” said that the dance scene in the movie was a challenge for him. In said the message in the film was simple: the power of love.
