Shanghai Tower construction reaches new heights

The Shanghai Tower, expected to be the country's tallest skyscraper upon completion, has built up to the 20th floor exceeding more than 100 meters above the ground. The constructed height will reach 200 meters by the end of this year, said the developer.

The tower, designed to reach an eventual height of 632 meters in Pudong's Lujiazui area, is expected to be put into use on January 1, 2015, said Gu Jianping, general manager of Shanghai Tower Construction & Development Co., Ltd, a subsidiary under Shanghai Chengtou.

Gu said the tower's constructed areas, when completed, will roughly have double the amount of space available at Jin Mao Tower.

Underground passages will be constructed to connect the tower with Jin Mao and Shanghai World Financial Center, considered a golden triangle situated in the most prime location in Lujiazui.

The developer also said they have teamed up with the Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels (Group) to develop the Shanghai Tower J-Hotel, which will occupy the 84th to the 110th floors of the building. The J-Hotel will be created as a top-end hotel brand under Jin Jiang.
