Fileteado exhibit reveals the best of Argentinean art
AS an artistic drawing and lettering style from Buenos Aires, Fileteado is being showcased for Argentinean culture and art lovers in Shanghai.
Collectively hosted by the Consulate General of Argentina in Shanghai and Biblioteca Miguel de Cervantes, the exhibition entitled “Fileteado Porteno” presents over 40 masterpieces of exquisite Fileteado. Enjoying equal popularity with Tango, Fileteado is one of the most representative artistic styles of Buenos Aires.
The artistic style was born as simple ornaments especially used for vehicle decoration, which became an emblematic form of Buenos Aires art. It originated from graphic patterns of agricultural tools, public transportation and bills. Later, many European immigrants brought their cultural elements to the style and mixed it with local traditions, creating a refined and beautiful Argentine style.
Fileteado features a high degree of stylization, prominent use of lively colors and symbolic conceptualization of presented images.
In addition to flowers, vehicles, leaves and animals, including dragon and phoenix, there are other themes like fairy tales, religions and respected personages presented in the artistic style.
Although little valued in its beginning, Fileteado has been inscribed as Argentina’s national intangible cultural heritage, providing the characteristic image of people’s enriched culture and lifestyles in Argentina.
