Three tourists from Xiangtan risked life and limb to get free entry into Changsha Ecological Zoo on Saturday.

The fare-dodging visitors scaled the fence in the zoo in Changsha, Hunan Province, looking to save the entrance fee. They then wandered around just a few meters away from where several dangerous Bengal Tigers roamed freely. Had they scaled another fence close by then they would have ended up as tiger meat.

The man and two women, who are brother and sisters, were quickly spotted by zoo staff on CCTV and escorted to a safety area. They were later sent to a nearby police station to explain their actions.

According to the zoo regulation, tourists must get on a specially protected bus to enter the tiger-roaming zone.

Zhang Bin, an official who supervises security in the zoo, said their lives would have been in grave danger if a sightseeing bus had approached the gate at the same time as they were walking around the zoo. This would have precipitated an attack.
