China's smartphone sales jumped 14 percent in April year on year, the first monthly gain of 2020. 5G models accounted for almost 40 percent of sales, a national researcher said on Tuesday.

In April, domestic smartphone sales reached 41.7 million units. In the first four months of the year, total smartphone sales dropped 20.1 percent, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) .

CAICT is a research organization under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the country’s top industry regulator.

A rebound after the epidemic and 5G model replacement demand fueled the market, industry insiders said.

In April, 5G model sales reached 16.4 million units, accounting for 39.3 percent of total sales. There were 22 new 5G models released in April in China, accounting for 45.8 percent of the total model number, said CAICT.
