The first Pudong Digital Commerce Summit was held on Tuesday, when over 1,000 industrial insiders and government officials sat down to discuss the future of e-commerce in the Pudong New Area.

Industry giants like Amazon, Alibaba and Ebay shared their experience and visions for e-commerce in the area.

Wang Hua, deputy head of Pudong, said e-commerce, especially cross-border e-commerce, is the fastest-growing part of the digital economy in the area.

Last year, the total volume of online import-export trade reached 1.98 billion yuan (US$280 million), accounting for 40 percent of the city’s total volume. The figure grew even faster this year: The first six months have already witnessed 1.48 billion yuan in cross-border e-commerce trade, up 98 percent year on year.

A total of 20 companies signed agreements with Pudong at the summit to further push the development of the e-commerce industry.
