ESports group to promote talent in Yangtze River Delta

An association to promote the cultivation of eSports talent in the Yangtze River Delta region has been established in Shanghai.

The first 55 members include higher educational institutions, such as Fudan University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Sport University and the Nanjing branch of the Communication University of China, and eSports enterprises, including Tencent and Perfect World.

Lu Ye, director of the Shanghai Campus eSports Association and Shanghai Education Center of Science and Art, said the new organization aims to promote the development of eSports education and support the region in building itself into a highland for eSports culture, talent and industry.

He said the members will share resources to become a demonstration area for eSports education, a hub of eSports talent and an incubator for eSports cultural creativity.

The association will develop related education standards and textbooks, train teachers and carry out cooperation between schools and enterprises to provide practice opportunities for students, he added.

A forum, a training class for teachers and an eSports competition were also held over the weekend. More than 50 teachers from over 40 schools participated in the training while 60 contestants in 10 teams took part in the competition with Shanghai Commercial School the winners.
