Cartoons and encouraging words on the walls of Leishenshan Hospital, an emergency hospital for coronavirus treatment in Wuhan.

Medical staff on the frontline of the coronavirus epidemic are using art to cheer up each other and their patients.

Hand-drawn images and encouraging words decorate the corridor of an intensive care section of Leishenshan Hospital, an emergency hospital for coronavirus treatment in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.

The project was initiated by two nurses from Renji Hospital in Shanghai.

Zhuang Jiaying, who is responsible for the drawings, said they want to make the walls more "humane and emotional." They view the hospital as their home, where they will eventually overcome the virus.

"It is also a way for us to release our emotions and share our feelings with other medical staff," said nurse Cheng Fei, who wrote several inspiring texts.
