Local health authorities have announced a citywide cleaning campaign, set to begin on Thursday and involving nearly 6,000 communities and enterprises as well as 150,000 residents.

The campaign will become a regular action from May to November to maintain the achievements of local coronavirus control and improve the city ahead of the third China International Import Expo, said the Shanghai Health Commission.

Coronavirus prevention measures are becoming more routine across the city, although summer and autumn are when infectious intestinal diseases and vector-borne illnesses, such as those carried by mosquitoes, reach a peak.

Each district will establish a mosquito-monitoring network for early intervention and control, say authorities.
