New medical center established with Italian director
The Sino European Life Expert Centre, a medical center focusing on intrauterine disease diagnosis and treatment, was established at Shanghai’s Renji Hospital on Wednesday.
The center, which has a director from Italy, will promote new technology among local patients as well as clinical practice in line with international standards. This means more patient-centered service, respect for patients’ privacy and processes adhering to international clinical guidance.
Dr Giuseppe Bigatti from Italy is the director and a full-time doctor at the center. He is also the first foreign doctor with a full-time job and who serves as a director of a department in a local state-owned hospital.
“It is a kind of health reform that we hire a foreign professional as a full-time doctor and to lead an entire department,” said Dr Di Wen, vice president of Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. “The operation of the center, both administrative and clinical, are under the leadership of Bigatti, who introduces practices and concepts prevalent in Western countries.”
Intrauterine disease is common among women. The incidence is about 20 to 30 percent, and is more frequent among women between 40 and 50 years old.
Patients at the new center will receive non-invasive checks for confirmed diagnoses. Those needing endoscopic surgery will receive minimally-invasive procedures.
Such practices can ensure more precise treatment and avoid unnecessary trauma to patients, who don’t need an operation, experts say.
