Twenty nurses won this year’s Zuo Ying Nurse Award and another 20 nurses won the nomination award, the city’s health authority announced on Tuesday, International Nurses Day.

The Zuo Ying award, named after a former government official, is one of the highest awards for local nurses.

A total of 78 nurses applied for this year’s award with 36 of them having served in Wuhan, former epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic.

Usually, 10 winners and 10 nomination award winners are honored each year. This time, however, the authority decided to double that because of the nurses' dedication to the coronavirus fight.
