Students and teachers have tested negative at a Beijing primary school after a sixth-grader was infected with novel coronavirus, local authorities said on Thursday.

The student lives in Beijing's Fengtai District and studies at the Xiangchanglu primary school in the Xicheng District, according to a notification released by the information office of the Xicheng district government.

A total of 668 throat swab samples were collected on Tuesday from teachers and students in the fifth and sixth grades at the school, as well as the students' parents. All samples were negative, it said. Students in the lower grades had not returned to the school when the infection case was reported.

Forty environmental samples from the school's surrounding areas were also collected and also tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

All students at the school have been asked not to return to campus until further notice.
