Think tank launches urban governance selection

A selection of best practices for urban governance in Shanghai was launched on Friday by the China Institute for Urban Governance, a think tank established by the city government and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Wu Jiannan, executive associate dean of the institute, said Shanghai has been dedicated to refining urban governance in recent years and had seen some outstanding practices which helped the city withstand the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The institute launched the selection, the first of its kind in Shanghai, to better summarize and study the practices to provide replicable practical and theoretical models for China.

Submission of outstanding cases in areas such as smart community establishment, co-governance by multiple participants, poverty elevation and civil services improvements will be accepted until July 31.

Primary selection and field investigation will be carried out between August 1 and September 15. Oral defenses and final assessments will be between September 16 and October 15 and the top 10 winners will be announced at the opening ceremony of the Global Cities Forum in October.
