White House trade adviser Peter Navarro's remarks about so-called "low-quality" COVID-19 testing kits from China is "groundless and extremely irresponsible," a spokesperson with the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic around the globe, China has maintained sound communication and cooperation with certification and registration agencies in various countries, including the US Food and Drug Administration, to ensure that epidemic prevention materials exported from China meet the quality requirements of importers, said the spokesperson.

Up till now, China has exported tens of millions of COVID-19 tests, which have won wide acclaim from the international community, and the country has not received any feedback from the US purchasers and users on the quality problems, the spokesperson added.

Noting that the novel coronavirus epidemic is the common enemy of all mankind, the spokesperson said, "We urge some people in the US to immediately stop making groundless accusations against Chinese products and smearing China, and to do more that is conducive to the United States' own response to the epidemic as well as to the cooperation between the two countries in fighting the epidemic."
