AI entrant to take part in 'future chic' fashion competition

The 2019 China International Fashion Design Innovative Competition was launched in Shanghai Tuesday.

With the theme of “future chic”, the competition will explore the influence of technology on creativity. Top-notch fashion schools from all over the world, including Italy’s Istituto Marangoni and America’s Parsons School of Design, will recommend students and graduates to participate. 

Each contestant is required to design 4-6 costumes which are the blend of cultural legacies and modern fashion. 

Their works will be judged by over 50 professionals of the fashion industry. The final will be hosted in April.

Zhou Jianping, an official from the organizing committee of the contest, said that they also hope to inspire fashion designers with the latest technology. 

A highlight of the competition is the introduction of new materials, big data and artificial intelligence (AI).

A special AI contestant will also present designs based on big data analysis and human-computer interaction.
