Metro Line 2 cut short for maintenance
Metro Line 2 will not stop at East Xujing, Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 from January 23 to February 2, Shanghai Metro said on Saturday.
This is due to major maintenance work in the tunnels. The Metro company explained that the Chinese New Year holiday is the ideal time to carry out the work because the number of Metro passengers is greatly reduced at that time.
Passengers to and from Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport can still take Line 10, while free, frequent shuttle buses will be available between Songhong Road Station on Line 2 and Hongqiao East traffic hub from 6:40am until midnight.
Metro Line 10 will operate at peak capacity with trains every 3 minutes and 40 seconds and remain in operation perhaps as late as 1:30am.
Peak traffic from Hongqiao is expected around January 30 when people return from the Chinese New Year holiday.
Nine trains have been reassigned to Shanghai Railway Station to relieve some of the pressure at Hongqiao.
Meanwhile, in Songjiang District, from January 25 to 29, the interval of Metro Line 9 trains between Songjiang Xincheng and Songjiang South Stations will be extended to 18 minutes instead of 5, also due to maintenance work.
