Local quarantine sites should meet six basic conditions according to the nation's guidelines to curb the spread of coronavirus disease, Zhu Renyi, an official with the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on Friday.

At the government briefing, Zhu said the location of quarantine sites should be some distance from residential complexes and be far away from water sources.

Channels for receiving, evacuating and transferring people under concentrated quarantine should be provided with natural ventilation because these sites cannot use air-conditioning in case the virus spreads in air.

Two separate ways — one is clean and the other is polluted — should be set to prevent cross contamination. The excreta and sewage of quarantined people should be disinfected before being discharged into the pipes.

Their household waste should be placed in temporary sites, which should be remote and not easy for people to reach. The garbage bins there should have covers.
