Shanghai Transport Card Co and Huawei launched a virtual transport card on Thursday, enabling passengers to use public transport in cities across the country with Huawei Pay.

The “Huawei Pay Shanghai Public Transport Card” can be installed free by users of Huawei and Honor phones.

The virtual card means travelers don’t have to purchase local transport cards or tickets when arriving in a new city.

Huawei has introduced virtual transport cards in more than 300 cities in China through Huawei Pay, its self-developed payment platform.

In Shanghai, the new card supports public transportation including the Metros, buses and ferries, offering transfer discounts within two hours.

Users pay by holding their phones near scanning machines.
