Some 1,000 people were mobilized to put out the fire that raged a forest in southwest China's Yunnan Province, fire police said Sunday.

The fire was spotted at 1:30pm Saturday in the forest range of Xingwen Village, Yulong County, under the city of Lijiang, according to the forest fire police of the city.

As of 9:30am Sunday, the northern and western edges of the fire had been contained, and firefighters were battling to put out the fire in the southern edge. Helicopters were expected to join in the fight as the fire spread to the cliffside.
