A US aircraft carrying the remains of US soldiers killed during the 1950-53 Korean War arrived in a military base in South Korea on Friday, Yonhap news agency reported.

The US C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft arrived in the Osan air base, about 60 km south of the capital Seoul, at about 11am local time (0200 GMT).

It brought 55 remains of US troops killed in the Korean War after leaving the Democratic People's Republic of Korea earlier in the day.

Top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un agreed with US President Donald Trump to repatriate the remains of US troops during their summit in Singapore on June 12.
