A Golden Retriever has turned green to help save the environment.

A local man, from Suzhou, found that his pet dog not only liked to go for a walk and swim in the river but also had a burning desire to recycle waste as well.

He discovered this on a daily stroll one-day, a few years ago, when his dog bounded into the water and returned with a discarded plastic bottle from a swim in the river between Nanyuan Bridge and Renmin Bridge. And, from that day on, the dog continued recycling waste. He even started to rescue bottles carelessly strewn on paths and roads.

He would always pick them up and walk to the nearest garbage can and drop the waste in. If the task proved to be too difficult then the bottle would be dropped near a bin and his owner would dispose of it for him.

The environmentally friendly dog soon become popular in the area and drew a large audience to watch his eco antics.

The dog’s owner says his Golden Retriever picks up at least 20 to 30 bottles a day and has been doing so for the last ten years, which means he has recycled more than 2,000 bottles.
