Old man voluntarily teaches math class for 17 years, and counting

A 79-year-old teacher from east China has continued teaching a tutorial class in a tile-roofed house for 17 years, never charging a penny from his students, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Ma Rusong was once a senior teacher at Dalun Junior High School, teaching math and physics for over 40 years. Now he voluntarily teaches a math class at his own home every weekend in Dalun Town in Taizhou city of Jiangsu Province in his retirement.

According to one of Ma’s neighbors, surnamed Xia, Ma refuses every time the students’ parents try to shove tuition fees into his hand. Xia said two children from her family have been admitted to their ideal university after having classes at Ma's home. 

Some of Ma’s students who attend his weekend class are orphans or left-behind children whose parents have left their hometown to work in other cities.

Ma hopes more young teachers will volunteer to help needy children. Ma’s class will open every day during the summer vacation.
