Samsung and Tencent will partner on streaming video on TV to target high-end consumer groups, Shanghai Daily learned today.

Under the partnership, Tencent’s high-definition video content can be played under “best performance” condition on Samsung TV models, which cost from 50,000 yuan (US$7,350) upwards, both companies said in Shanghai.

“People need upgraded experience in the living room, including both hardware and software,” said Liao Junfeng, general manager of Samsung Electronics Shanghai.

Shanghai is one of the most important regional markets for high-end TV vendors, including Samsung and Sony.

Samsung and Tencent has formed a global artificial intelligence alliance to compete against Google and Apple, media reported recently.
