The third Exposition on China Indigenous Brands will be held online this year, becoming China's first national-level trade show to adopt a completely digital format.

A total of 38 digital exhibition halls, among which 37 will feature provincial specialty home-grown brands and products, will operate virtually between May 10 and May 12 as part of the exhibition, which is organized under this year's China Brand Day.

"This year's exposition will feature key products and the latest technological breakthrough from Shanghai's four strategic industries, namely integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals and the digital economy," said Shanghai Development and Reform Commission vice director Qiu Wenjin.

"The event also fits well with Shanghai's latest action plan to promote new technologies and reboot the economy," he added.

Interactive sessions will be hosted to spread awareness of local brands and to boost business synergies for offline sales.

The event will employ an online gaming module and visitors can navigate through digital landmarks and business districts in the city within the virtual exhibition hall.

The International Forum on China Brand Development, another event for China Brand Day, will also be livestreamed from two main hosting sites in Beijing and Shanghai on May 10.

Local medical device, pharma and tech companies will exhibit products and services that have been used to fight the novel coronavirus epidemic during a special segment.

Virtual reality exhibitions will also allow online visitors to witness how local brands are using their core technologies to shape business and daily life.

The annual Exposition on China Indigenous Brands was first held in Shanghai in 2018 after the State Council designated May 10 as China Brand Day.
