Shanghai ranked the most attractive city for talent for the third consecutive year, with an ongoing but gradually decreasing inflow of talent in the past three years, according to a recent industry report.

According to the survey, conducted by online recruitment firm zhaopin.com and the Evergrande Research Institute, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing were the top three attractive cities for talent in 2019, as graduates and returnees were more inclined to live and work in first and second-tier cities.

From 2016 to 2019, Shanghai saw an ongoing net inflow of talent but their proportion to the city's population continued to decrease due to the local government’s population control and industrial transfer policies, the survey found.

Over the past year, 60 percent of floating job seekers were male with over 80 percent aged between 18 and 35. More than half the migrant job hunters held undergraduate and above academic qualifications, the survey said.

People with less work experience tend to find jobs across cities and industries such as information technology, real estate and manufacturing are more likely to attract migrant job applicants, according to the survey.
