China stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, as many overseas financial markets were closed for Christmas holiday.

China stocks performed mixed on Wednesday, as many overseas financial markets were closed for Christmas holiday.

The Shanghai Composite Index edged down 0.03 percent to 2,981.88 point at the close of market hours, while the blue chip CSI300 index shed 0.05 percent to 3,990.87 points and the Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.04 percent to 10,229.58 points.

Gains were led by software service, cultural media, materials industry, electronic information, electronic components, the communications industry and automobile industry.

Software service providers such as JC Finance & Tax Interconnect Holdings Ltd, GigaDevice Semiconductor (Beijing) Inc all increased by the daily cap.

As traditional Chinese New Year approaches, a peak film season, movie industry flourishes in advance. Great Wall International ACG Co Ltd hit the daily cap.

Steel, liquor-making, banking, coal and electricity industry post weak performance.

Turnover on the two major bourses totaled 503.2 billion yuan (US$71.82 billion), compared with 375.7 billion yuan in the previous session.

On the STAR Market, 62 companies gained while only six companies lost. Companies in semiconductor industry and integrated circuits industry were the biggest gainers. KINGSEMI Co Ltd, Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc China, both doing business in semiconductor industry, were the top 2 gainers.
