Over the past five days, young artists from 17 traditional theater troupes have displayed their martial arts stunts at Shanghai Great World.

Ten traditional theater performers from Shanghai and neighboring provinces were honored on October 11 for their superb showcase of martial arts stunts.

Among the winning performers were Fen Yun from Shanghai Peking Opera Company, Jia Zhe from Shanghai Kunqu Opera Company, You Jiaqi from Yangju Opera Institute of Yangzhou, and Xue Qiaoping from Ninghai Pingdiao Opera Inheritance Center.

Their performances with long costume sleeves, fans and flags amazed a large audience. Theater experts also commented on their pieces to provide audiences an insight into traditional Chinese opera.

At the closing ceremony of the showcase, the 10 winners offered excerpts from classics of “The Spider Cave,” “The Hu’s Village” and “Lin Chong Fled At Night.”

Gu Haohao, president of the Shanghai Center of Chinese Operas, said that they will continue to offer young performers of the Yangtze River Delta region a platform for exchange, showcase and growth.
