Invaluable artworks, including three ink-wash paintings and nine calligraphy pieces, were donated by the family of Jin Cheng, former vice minister of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee.

These works were left by Jin to his wife, Chen Fujun.

Jin was born in Zhuji County, Zhejiang Province, in the 1920s. Over the years, he built friendships with noted calligraphers and painters, including Pan Tianshou, Sha Menghai, Shen Junru and Fei Xiaotong. Their artistic works were given to Jin as gifts.

Over recent decades, these works were stored in a bank vault for safe keeping. Now 92-year-old Chen considers it is time to share them.

“I’m gratified that my children support my decision and think it is the best way to protect Jin's friendship and relics,” Chen said.

Chen’s donation has enriched the collection of Zhejiang Museum. Nearly 40 percent of the antiques in the museum come from private donations.

In the future, these paintings and calligraphic works will be put on display.
