Shanghai institute releases major report on AI

The Shanghai Institute for Science of Science has released a major report on artificial intelligence with contributions from experts from both home and abroad.

The institute invited top scientists and officials from the AI field to write their opinions and comments in “AI Governance in 2019: A Year in Review — Observations of 50 Global Experts.”

Globalization, securitization, operationalization, marketization and institutionalization are the five key concerns during the current stage of global AI management, the report said.

The OECD Principles on Artificial Intelligence, legislation on facial recognition in some countries and more active corporate involvement in AI are also three important development in the field, officials said.

“AI is an important driving force for a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, which will bring significant changes to people’s lives,” said Shi Qian, director of the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science. “The report is useful in discussing the development of AI and how to regulate it to ensure its safety and better development in the future.”
