The scenic area of Wulong Karst was open as usual Friday, unaffected by a 5-magnitude earthquake in Wulong county in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality Thursday afternoon.

The quake struck at 5:43 p.m. Six people were slightly injured, and some houses were damaged, the local tourism development committee said.

No tourists remained in the scenic area when the earthquake occurred. Further safety checks confirmed that the main scenic spots in the area had not been affected by the quake and were safe for tourism.

Wulong Karst, 160 km from the main urban zone of Chongqing, was listed as a world natural heritage site by UNESCO in 2007.
