A 13-year-old boy was taken by the government for rehabilitation after he allegedly killed a 10-year-old girl in northeast China’s Dalian City, local police said.

The boy, surnamed Cai, was caught by police on October 20 after the girl was found murdered in Shahekou District in Dalian, Liaoning Province, the same day. Police said Cai confessed to the crime during their investigation.

Since Cai is under 14 years of age, he isn’t old enough to be held liable for the offense, according to China’s Criminal Law.

He was turned over to an institution for rehabilitation, police said, without adding further details.

Police didn’t mention possible motives for the murder.
