The owner of a restaurant that partially collapsed on Aug. 29 in Xiangfen County, north China's Shanxi Province, has been put under criminal detention, local police said Thursday.

The restaurant owner was suspected of committing the crime of jeopardizing public security in a dangerous manner, the police said.

The accident happened at around 9:40am on Aug. 29 when relatives and fellow villagers congregated to attend a birthday banquet of an 80-year-old man.

The collapse killed 29 people, leaving seven severely injured while 21 others sustained minor injuries.
