A security guard at a residential complex in Anting Town in Shanghai’s Jiading District helped look after a lost handbag with property worth at least 100,000 yuan (US$15,099) inside, moving the owner to tears of joy.

As a security video showed, a grey handbag fell from a scooter to the ground when the rider passed through the gate of the residential complex around 5:12pm on October 3.

A passer-by who came across the bag turned it in to the security guard on duty, Li Caigao, who contacted the head of his team and handed the bag to property management staff.

The bag contained cash and objects worth at least 100,000 yuan, as well as other important personal documents including an identity card and a social security card, all without any contact information.

The owner hurried to the gate ten minutes after she lost her bag and burst into tears after being informed it had been well kept. 

She had her father send a silk banner and appreciation letter to the security guard.
