Siemens' medical and health care solution subsidiary said it has launched the construction of a 3 billion yuan (US$433 million) manufacturing site in Shanghai for imaging and laboratory diagnostics products.

After the completion of the Siemens Healthineers facility, it will become an integrated base of innovation for the company's manufacturing of imaging and laboratory diagnostics products, creating close to 500 new jobs when fully operational.

"This investment underscores our long-term commitment to the growing health care market in the country and across the Asia Pacific region,”  Michael Reitermann, member of the Managing Board and president of Diagnostics of Siemens Healthineers AG, said in a statement.

The Laboratory Diagnostics plant expands the Siemens Healthineers global manufacturing footprint and enhances the ability of the company to better address the evolving needs of health care providers in China by gleaning market insights and delivering more localized products and solutions.

“The new laboratory diagnostics factory will be the company’s first in-vitro diagnostic reagent plant in the Asia Pacific, producing clinical chemistry and immunoassay reagents, and Shanghai will become the first manufacturing location for Siemens Healthineers in the region that combines both in-vivo and in-vitro products,” said Elisabeth Staudinger, president of Siemens Healthineers in Asia Pacific.
