Shenzhen-listed snack food firm Qiaqia is aiming to be China’s No. 1 nuts brand with upgrades in technology and marketing as well as overseas expansion, the company said on Thursday in Shanghai.

It has cooperated with industry alliances to establish the Chinese Nuts Nutrition Research Center to upgrade production and package. Meanwhile, it has also established a strategy partnership with Focus Media on marketing.

Qiaqia, which used to focus on melon seeds, is targeting customer demands for nutrition and health, said Chen Xianbao, Qiaqia’s chairman.

Qiaqia recently announced an investment of 500 million yuan (US$73.5 million) to build a plant in Thailand, the first Chinese snack food giant to set up an overseas plant.
