IKEA opened its latest store in downtown Jing'an District on Thursday as the Swedish home furnishing giant makes a further move to reach consumers following the launch of a Tmall store in March.

The first IKEA City store in China, a three-story, 3,000-square-meter outlet near Jing'an Temple, was packed with visitors upon its debut.

Last year, IKEA announced a 10-billion-yuan (US$1.41 billion) investment in its China operations for the fiscal year ending in August, which includes upgrading its existing stores and adding a network of smaller stores in central urban locations.

Accessibility and digitalization are two crucial parts of its China strategy.
