'Flow with Matter' spotlights Finnish art duo
The exhibition “Flow with Matter” is going on at Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum. The show displays 21 works from Finnish artist duo Tommi Grönlund and Petteri Nisunen, including installations, video pieces, photography and prints.
Nisunen and Grönlund have been working together since 1994. The duo produces records and creates mixed-media installations that explore sound and space in a simple, low-tech manner. They frequently work with artists, musicians and professionals in other fields, including scientists and engineers.
In the exhibition, a looped animation of colored circles is on the wall of the entrance lobby. The work was first presented as an outdoor projection on the facade of Helsinki Kunsthalle during the artists’ exhibition “The Grey Area.”
The show features several new site-specific installations designed for the museum, including “Pneumatic Landscape” and “LED Horizon.”
The duo’s architecture and kinetic installations are minimal yet poetic, restrained and precise in their expressive language. The artists can convey a complex and important idea in a straight-forward manner, reaching their audience with imagination.
