Late film director Xie Jin was honored as one of the top 100 outstanding individuals who greatly contributed to the country's 40 years of reform and opening-up.
Shanghai Film Group Corp held a themed workshop on December 21 to mark the artistic achievements of the filmmaker.
During his 60-year career, director Xie made many highly acclaimed movies which also represented the development of Chinese cinema. Among his famous works are “Two Stage Sisters,” “Hibiscus Town,” “Woman Basketball Player No. 5,” “The Red Detachment of Women” and “The Herdsman.”
Earlier this week, Xie’s 1962 black-and-white comedy “Da Li, Xiao Li and Lao Li” was presented in a new version, dubbed in the Shanghai dialect.
Bao Zhifang, deputy director of “The Herdsman,” recalled her cooperation with Xie.
“Before shooting started, Xie asked young actors to live with village people for a whole month,” Bao said. “He also encouraged actors to create sketches based on real life stories.”
Ren Zhonglun, chairman of Shanghai Film Group Corp, called on staff to learn from the master’s spirit and dedication to art.
“Although director Xie has been gone for 10 years, his distinctive art of cinematography is still influencing the younger generation of filmmakers,” Ren said. “He is still alive in our hearts.”
