A forum on child development has been held in Shanghai by the China Welfare Institute, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the China office of the United Nations Children's Fund.

Wang Jiarui, president of the institute, told the 2019 Soong Ching Ling Children’s Development International Forum that this year marked the 70th anniversary of Soong Ching Ling’s dedication to child education.

“In the past 70 years, China has achieved much in children’s development,” he said. “The forum is named after Madam Soong because we want to carry on her work in protecting children’s rights and furthering their development.”

The forum focused on preschool education this year.

Yu Yongping, president of the China National Society of Early Childhood Education, said that preschool education should look into children’s needs and all preschool policies should be based on providing quality kindergartens near children's homes.
