Global concert series marks World Earth Day

Musicians from all over the world participated in a global radio and online concert series in celebration of World Earth Day on Wednesday.

Shanghai's classical music radio channel FM94.7 joined the Shanghai Opera House to take part in broadcasting the musical event, which featured performances from the Berlin Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 

The 12-hour live broadcast attracted famed German conductor Will Humburg, French pianist Jean-Francois Heisser and Italian tenor Marco Berti.

The concerts featured pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Brahms. Excerpts from the operas “The Lady of the Camellias” and “Turandot” were also performed.

During an interview with FM94.7, Chinese pianist and conductor Xu Zhong said that music can give people courage and strength in the face of difficulties.
